The Japanese took out everything in the city leaving nothing but blood and bodies. But not all hope was lost when a group of about 20 Europeans and Americans created a "safety zone" where anyone that had survived the attacks could go. The group of European's and Americans was very divers, some were doctors, some were businessmen. But all the Chinese cared about was getting healed.

These "Westerners" as the Chinese called them were there heroes. They would treat wounds, pray for them, these 20 people helped many people. They would even save women or children that were being raped by the Japanese. These westerners saved the lives of many Chinese civilians and since the Japanese knew that they were not to enter the "safety zone" they had no choice but to leave Nanjing.
